BP finally managed to place a containment cap over the ruptured well head 5000 feet underwater on 3rd June. The cap is able to contain and siphon parts of the gushing oil to the surface onto the awaiting drill ship Discover Enterprise. Until 9th June, 57,500 barrels (2.4 million gallons) of oil were collected. The containment cap is only a temporary solution, a more realistic solution depends on the drilling of two relief wells that is expected to intercept the ruptured well by August.
