Cyprus - Daylight Robbery
Just imagine that you were a Cypriot, happily went to sleep on Friday night, looking forward to a long weekend as Monday is a public holiday.
On early Saturday morning, while you were driving happily to the beach resort with your family, you heard over the radio that the Cyprus Government has accepted a bailout proposal in Brussels with the European Union and the International Monetary Fund that include a 6.75% to 9.9% tax on your bank deposit.
The Government termed it as ' A Contribution' from all bank depositors to ensure financial stability of Cyprus. To legalised the 'Contribution', a parliament sitting will be called on Tuesday to pass this 'new tax' to legally take your money. The bank will remain closed until Wednesday and all electronic transfers have been blocked. Once the Parliament has passed the 'law', money will be taken from your account before the bank reopen.
This is a case when your elected Government has messed up the country's economy and your banker has gambled away your money with big losses (loans to Greek borrowers that worth 160% of Cypriot GDP for high interest return), they are looking at your hard-earned money to save the bank and to get a bailout.

If this can happen in Cyprus, it can happen in other countries.
So choose your Government wisely if you have the chance.

Dow - Sub-wave v to be completed soon.
Without access to internet for 10 days is a new experience - more outdoor activities and less stress.
Dow moves slowly and consistently towards the 14750 level to complete its sub-wave v. If the next pullback can hold above the lower trendline, then the wave (vii) will have 9 waves - the market can last longer.
However if Dow drops beyond the lower trendline, it can be taken that wave (vii) is completed.
The next corrective wave (viii) is projected to have an 8% to 10% pullback. Wave (viii) should be able to end above the 13,000 level before Dow moving higher again to complete its wave (ix).
Then the next question is whether the mega wave 1 has five or nine waves.

Dow - The ultimate bubble
As Dow crosses its 2007 historical high of 14,164 on Wednesday, it is interesting to compare some of the market variables between 2007 and now, compiled by Tyler Durden.
The US economy at this moment is in far worst shape than it was in 2007 market peak. The Dow can be at its current level and has become completely divorced from economic reality is because of Federal Reserve reckless money printing. The bubble that is being created will burst ultimately. The only question is "when ?".

Dow - Music plays on
Dow continues to move higher on Wednesday morning, it put on 40 points to 14,294 after one hour of trading. It has 300 points to go before reaching its upper trend-line at around 14,600 level. That can be the end of sub-wave v.
If wave (vii) has 9 sub-waves, then the next pullback will be its sub-wave vi, a 50 to 60 points drop.
However if wave (vii) has only 5 sub-waves, then the next pullback will be wave (viii), a 8% to 10% pullback. That will be more than 1200 points
Dow needs another 5 to 6 months to complete its wave (vii), (viii) and (ix).
If mega wave 1 has only 5 waves, 5 to 6 months from now can be quite dangerous. But if mega wave 1 has 9 waves, then the catastrophic mega wave 2 correction will have to wait until 2015.
One thing is for sure, the market has to be euphoric before the plunge. The big fishes will have to make sure that all the the small fishes are in before they stop the music.

Dow - another update
Scenario 1 - Grand Super Wave (III) ended in October 2007 when Dow reached its peak of 14164. Dow is in its Grand Super Wave (IV), going through a 15 to 20 years of side way A-B-C-D-E consolidation with Dow fluctuating between 14,000 and 6,000 or below.
Scenario 2 - Grand Super Wave (III) has 9 waves, Dow has completed its Super wave VI in March 2009 when Dow dropped to its low of 6547. Dow is forming its mega wave 1 of its Super wave VII.
I am currently monitoring Dow with respect to scenario 2 and I believe Dow is at the tail end of its mega wave 1.
Dow may take another 5 months to complete wave (vii), (viii) and (ix) of its major wave (5) of mega wave 1 before starting its mega wave 2 plunge. However if mega wave 1 has 9 waves, Dow will have to complete its major wave (6), (7), (8) and (9) before the mega wave 2 can take place, and that will push the mega wave 2 to year 2015.
Mega wave 2 can go to as low as 6547 for a 100% retracement. Is this what Roubini's thinking of 'short-term bullish, long-term catastrophic' ?.
Looking at the 6-month chart below, Dow is at its sub-wave v of its wave (vii).
Wave (vii) can have 9 waves.
Or it can have only 5 waves, then wave (vii) will be completed within a week or two. Wave (viii) will have a 8% to 10% correction.
Is this the 'intermediate top' mentioned by Marc Faber recently ?
And when it burst, we will be lucky if Dow can stop at 6547.
If unlucky, Dow is in Grand Super Wave (VI) mentioned under scenario 1, Dow may have another 50% to 60% drop from 6547 to 3000 and below.
