Vanessa Mae

Vanessa Mae cut her first album, 'Violin' in 1990 when she was only 12. But it was her fourth album The Violin Player in 1995 that she broke away from her traditional classical influences and started her new "violin techno-acoustic fusion" in pop-style that attracted international attention. The leading piece 'Toccata and Fugue in D minor' from this album shot to 16th position in the UK Chart instantly.

A standing ovation performance, so beautiful, so elegant and lively.

Vanessa-Mae (陳美, Chén Měi) was born on 27th October 1978 in Singapore to a Thai father (Varaprong Vanakorn) and a Chinese mother (Pamela Tan). After her parents separated, her mother married Graham Nicholson, and the family moved to England when Vanessa-Mae was four years old.

A powerful, vibrant and lively performance that went deep into your heart.

Vanessa-Mae made her international professional debut at the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival in Germany in 1988 when she was only 9 years old. Unfortunately I couldn't find a recording of that performance of her.

This is another lively piece of music from her.

In April 2006, Vanessa-Mae was ranked as the wealthiest young entertainer under 30 in the UK having an estimated fortune of about £32 million stemming from concerts and record sales of over an estimated 10 million copies world wide, which is an unprecedented achievement for a young female violinist.

In 1997, she was invited to perform in Hong Kong in a musical performance celebrating the return of Hong Kong to China, ending British's 150 years rule of Hong Kong.
