Don't Play Play

Xenophon, a threat to community - immediate deportation

Don't play play, let's negotiate.

Datuk Mat Zain Ibrahim :

"There’s not much difference between the standoff in Kampung Tandou, Lahad Datu, and the one that took place in Bukit Jenalik, Sauk, Perak, in July 2000."

" If our own citizens involved in the Sauk incident can be forcibly disarmed and even killed by the security forces and later charged in the court of law and a few eventually hanged, ................. should the prime minister treat the Sulu invaders with kid gloves."

Nasdaq at 12-year high

Nasdaq closed at 3213 on Tuesday, a new high after the collapse of the year 2000 dot-com bubble when Nasdaq plunged 77% from March 2000's high of 5048 to Sept 2002's low of 1139.

One possible wave count for Nasdaq is as shown below, assuming the uptrend since Sept 2002 is a mega B wave.

Since the completion of the major wave (2) on March 2009, Nasdaq has completed its wave 1, 2, 3, 4 and sub-wave (i), (ii), (iii) and (iv) and it is currently at the tail-end of its sub-wave (v) of its wave 5 of its major wave (3) of mega wave B as shown below.

Assuming Nasdaq is not able to break its upper trend-line, sub-wave (v) will stop at around 3250 level, another 37 points to go from Tuesday closing level of 3213.

Again, in view of the Federal Reserve QE programs and the liquidity created, sub-wave (v) may not be the end of wave 5, that is to say, wave 5 may have 9 sub-waves. The next pullback can be sub-wave (vi) to be followed by sub-wave (vii), (viii) and (ix).

Similarly the major wave (3) can have 9 waves too. After wave 5, it can also have wave 6, 7, 8 and 9.

So, after the completion of sub-wave (v), the monitoring will be on whether the next correction will stop at the lower trend-line at around 2900 level to form the sub-wave (vi).

If Nasdaq failed to hold at 2900 level and it continues to drop lower, we can draw the conclusion that wave 5 is completed. Then the next question is whether the bigger degree correction is wave 6 or the major wave (3) has ended.

Just has to wait and see.

Kuchai Development Bhd

Kuchai is quite well behaved. It is forming its sub-wave viii at this moment. It may drop back to 1.05 level before starting its sub-wave ix. For 'Double-Bottom' formation, theoretically its has a minimum target of 1.40. However, the path it will take to reach the target may be affected by the coming 13th General Election. I expect the overall market to drift lower until the election day.

Dow - Wave (vii) is about to end

Wave (vii) that moved from 12,542 level in November 2012 to last Friday closing price of 13,981 level, it has gained about 11.4% over a 3 months period. The next wave (viii) correction is expected to end within 2 months. The wave (ix) run-up should take another 3 months to complete. If major wave (5) has only 9 waves, it is projected to end around July to be followed by a higher degree correction.

If the debt bubbles of the US, Europe and Japan can be prolonged by more money printing by the central banks, the up-trend since March 2009 can just continue. Under such scenario, the higher degree correction in July or August can be the major wave (6) pullback instead of the fearful mega wave (2) correction.

Happy Valentine's Day

I was told recently by a friend that Valentine's Day was originated hundreds of years ago in Punjab ..........

In those olden days the Punjabi men used to mistreat and disrespect their wives (Punjabans). One fine day, it happened to be the 14th day of February, one brave Punjaban, having had enough 'torture' by her husband, finally chose to rebel by beating him up with a Velan (rolling pin) that she used daily, to make chapattis for him.

This was a momentous occasion for all Punjabans, just like the 'Jasmine Revolution', this 'Velan Revolution' soon spread like wild fire, with thousands of Punjabans beating up their husbands with Velan.

The Punjabi men quickly learnt their lesson and started to behave and gave more respect to their Punjabans, especially on 14th February. Soon the Punjabi men realised that in order to avoid this ordeal and to please their wives .... they brought flowers and sweets as gifts to their wives. Hence the tradition began and the 14th February was called 'Velan Time' day. The ritual soon spread to Britain and other Western countries by the East India Company.

In their foreign tongues, it was first anglisised to 'Velantime' and then to 'Valentine'. And thereafter, 14th of February, came to be known as Valentine's Day.

Will Bursa Malaysia starts to slide until Election ?

FBMKLCI managed to stay above the lower trend line until the last trading day before the long Lunar New Year holiday. Will the index starts to slide after the long holiday ?

I think chances is high that it will move lower until the General Election is over. Assuming that it will punch through the lower resistance line, a possible wave count is as shown below. The last high is the end of mini wave v, a higher degree of correction has already started since the last high.

Email from Denmark

Little Mermaid

I went to the Little Mermaid which everyone said was overrated. I was pleasantly surprised.

Maybe it was the lighting, or the fact that it wasn't very crowded.

I thought when I looked at her that she is really lonely and sad. I mean, her face wasn't made to look like she was crying or anything like that.

The person who casted her managed to create this aura of sadness and loneliness.

At the same time, she is so small and fragile looking. For a sculpture to evoke this emotion, I think is quite something.

Danish Pastry

The best moment in Denmark, I must say, is the time I sank my teeth into this Danish pastry.

I just randomly picked a pastry with some chocolate at Baresso (something like a Danish Starbucks) and a cup of cappuccino.

But when I bit into it - wah ..... it was buttery, not too oily; crispy, not too flaky, and it was interlaced with cinnamon and sugar with a cavity filled with cool custard, and drizzled with chocolate.

In one bite, I tasted chocolate, custard, vanilla, butter, cinnamon and sugar. It was like nothing I've tasted before and I don't think I will ever have another pastry of its equivalence. Then I sip my coffee. Then, I take another bite. Wah, and then I sip my coffee. Then, I remembered - must take photo, my half eaten Danish.

Really, it doesn't look like much, deceptively ordinary, something that may even be considered as a lookalike to things that you may find somewhere else. But within this ordinary looking Danish lies the excellent taste and remarkable cleverness that push this Danish beyond the normality of things we called puff pastry found worldwide.

Later on, I found out that this pastry is called 'Direktorsnegl', which translates to 'Director Snail'. I was rather amused because the pastry shell is crispy rolled up like a snail's shell, and the cool custard inside must be the gooey snail.

The Contrast.

Australia

Last Wednesday, Prime Minister, Julia Gillard stunned voters by announcing a national election for September 14, eight months away.

Election must be held by the end of the year, but Gillard said,

"It is not right for Australians to be forced into a guessing game, and it's not right for Australians to not face this year with certainty and stability."

"So in the interest of certainty, in the interest of transparency, in the interest of good governance, I have made the date clear."

Malaysia

The Malaysian Prime Minister said last Saturday,

"I know when to see the Yang di Pertuan Agong to ask for the dissolution of Parliament and there is no need to “jolok” (pester) me on when the 13th general elections will be held."

Under the Constitution, Malaysian Parliament’s five-year tenure of the  present 12th Parliament will end on April 27, 2013.

PSY may be able to help in fixing  the election date when he is performing in Penang next Monday (Feb 11) at BN's Chinese New Year open house at Han Chiang High School Field.

we pray to You that You will guide the human beings

to live with peace among themselves, and with us.

It is beyond our comprehension

that so many of them fight among themselves
by claiming they are fighting under your name.

Ooooh Hallelujah Hallelujah

4th February - Start of Spring 'Lichun' (立春)

For farming purposes, the ancient Chinese divided a year into 24 Solar Terms (節氣) according to the position of the sun to reflect the seasonal cycle. 'Lichun' (立春) is the first Solar Term and it marks the starting of spring as well as the  'Year of Water Snake' Female Water on 4th February.

The first 5 Solar Terms are as shown in the following table.

Since the date for Chinese New Year is based on lunar calendar, its date with respect to the Gregorian or Western Calendar (Solar Calendar) varies from mid January to mid February.

This is because 12 lunar months totaled only 355 days, 10 days less than the Gregorian Calendar. The ancient Chinese corrected the difference by having a 13-month-year once every three years. And because of this shifting of the first day of Chinese New Year from mid January to Mid February, it is possible to have a Lunar Year without 'Lichun', Chinese call the year without 'Lichun' a 'Blind Year' (盲年). Marriage is said to be unlucky in a 'Blind Year'. Unfortunately the 2013 Lunar Year is a 'blind year' as it starts on 10th February 2013 after 'Lichun' and it will end on 31st January 2014, before the next 'Lichun'.

驚蟄打小人

Another interesting 'Solar Term' is the 'Jingzhe' (驚蟄) on 5th March this year. Some Chinese in Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia have the custom of making offerings to the 'White Tiger' (祭白虎) and 'Da Siu Yan' (打小人) to get rid of bad luck and unpleasant people, trouble makers, gossipers, busybodies and anybody that can cause troubles or harms.

If you feel that your luck is not that good and there is somebody always stand on your way, you can engage an expert on 5th March this year to do the 'Da Siu Yan' for you.

FBMKLCI - One last surge before the 13th G.E. ?

If Bursa Malaysia is expected to have a higher degree pullback before the coming General Election in March or April, it is possible that the current run-up since October 2012 will end at mini-wave ix, a last surge before the anticipated pullback.

The mini-wave ix can mark the end of either sub-wave (i) or wave 3 depending on the outcome of the election.
