A friend emailed the following to me on how to survive a heart attack when alone.
1. Do not panic, but start coughing repeatedly and vigorously.
2. A deep breath should be taken before each deep and prolonged cough.
3. A breath and a cough must be repeated about 2 seconds without let-up until help arrives or until the heart is felt to be breathing normally again.
Deep breaths get oxygen into the lungs and coughing movements squeeze the heart and keep blood circulating. The squeezing pressure on the heart also helps it regain normal rhythm.
